International school teacher requirements in China

Separate a school's selection criteria from the work-permit assessment and prepare evidence for both.

Read the specific job description

Check the required subject knowledge, student age range, teaching certification and experience against the actual role. A school may also assess curriculum experience and communication. The official Shekou International School teacher description is one employer example, not a universal standard for all schools.

Show how your experience fits

List the awarding body and status of your teaching qualification. Explain the subjects and age groups you have taught, and prepare examples of planning, assessment and collaboration. For PE roles, explain how you adapt activities to student ability, inclusion and safety.

Prepare for safeguarding checks

Ask the employer about references, safeguarding checks and its child-protection expectations. Keep referee contact details current and obtain permission before sharing them. Discuss how sensitive documents will be collected and assessed; an initial expression of interest need not contain a passport scan.

Keep eligibility checks separate

School selection and immigration eligibility answer different questions. Official talent guidance distinguishes foreign-language teachers from other professional categories. Do not apply a language-teacher rule automatically to a subject teacher, PE teacher or coach; confirm the relevant category and local requirements with the employer.
