Teacher salary guide in China: compare the complete offer

Use a consistent comparison of written pay, workload and benefits instead of relying on an unsupported salary range.

Compare the same pay basis

Ask whether the quoted figure is gross or net, how many months are paid and whether any amount depends on performance or renewal. Record the currency, pay date, probation terms and bonus conditions. A headline monthly figure alone cannot describe the annual package.

Put benefits and workload in writing

Compare teaching hours, other duties, leave, insurance and any housing or travel provision. Ask whether a benefit is supplied, reimbursed or capped, and what evidence is required. Treat these as questions for each employer, not benefits that every teaching job includes.

Check the take-home assumptions

China's Individual Income Tax Law includes wages and salaries within taxable income. Ask the employer for a payroll explanation based on your circumstances, including deductions and any applicable contributions. Obtain qualified advice where needed; a recruiter's informal estimate is not a personal tax calculation.

Assess the offer against your priorities

Compare the complete package with your expected living costs, professional responsibilities and start-date constraints. Keep the written offer and employment contract consistent. This guide supplies comparison questions and publishes no national salary benchmark, guaranteed earnings or promised benefits.
